The title Simply Said is very fitting for the album. The compositions simpler and Garrett's playing is more melodic while still maintaing his established language. Jobim For Lovers is an album by one of my favorite alto players. Although I think his playing can be repetitive at times and too bold for certain songs. His sound is great though and he plays a Yamaha horn! That is surprising. On this album he plays tenor, I just skip that song. He shouldn't be playing tenor imo. The Paris Concert Vol. 1 is absolutely stunning trio work. It's some of his last work before his death in 1980. Beautifully introspective and the liner notes are well worth the read. They're inspirational.

So Near, So Far is straight ahead playing. Absolutely killing Scofield on this. His guitar tone is one to be remembered. At first when I was listening I really locked in with the guitar solo and just blurted out Scofield! Upon checking the personnel list, I was right. His playing is very distinct. Henderson's solo on Miles Ahead is a favorite of mine. This album makes me question why I stick to alto but I don't think I'll ever switch.
